Campaign Update
Recent major gifts are making a big impact.

Longtime arts benefactors Robert and Arlene Kogod made a five-year pledge totaling $500,000 to support programming at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. The continued generosity of the Kogods provides funding for visiting artists from around the world. These artists not only perform at the center, but also engage students, faculty and the community-at-large in a variety of activities including master classes, workshops, creative dialogues, pre-performance discussions, post-show talkbacks and programs at local elementary and secondary schools.

More than $505,000 is committed to the Nariman Farvardin Professorship, a fund established by alumni and friends of the Clark School to recognize the many years of service by Farvardin, former dean of the Clark School who is Maryland’s new provost. As donor gifts continue to be received, major contributors to date include: Engineering Board of Visitors chair Tom Scholl, Jeong H. Kim Ph.D. ’91, Aris Mardirossian ’74, M.S. ’75 and A. James Clark ’50.

Brian Hinman ’82 continued his support of the Hinman CEOs Program with a gift of $250,000. The vibrant and award-winning living learning undergraduate entrepreneurship program was launched in Fall 2000, and continues to have a major impact on the culture of entrepreneurship at Maryland. Hinman’s gift supports the operations of this high-tech, high resource program. Young entrepreneurs from all academic disciplines are immersed in an innovative environment that includes one-on-one mentoring and networking with leaders in business, engineering and other fields who assist participants in developing their own companies.
