Gift from Fischell Family Spurs Medical Device Innovation
"Our
gifts to the Clark School
will help engineering
students develop their
ideas to improve health
care for millions of
human beings."
Robert E. Fischell, December 2005
Alumnus Robert E. Fischell (M.S. '53) devotes his amazing creative energy and engineering skills to improving the quality of life for people throughout the world.
A pioneer in bioengineering, his inventions include modern medical stents, lifetime pacemaker batteries and implantable insulin pumps.
His sons, David, Scott and Tim, share his passion for changing the world through
inventive genius, hard work and philanthropy. Inspired by their father's $30
million gift, the three have generously added to the fund, which will propel
the University to the top ranks in bioengineering.
The
Fischell Department of Bioengineering and the
Robert
E. Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices gather under one roof path-breaking research and education conducted at the intersection of engineering and the biological sciences. Their generous gift includes support for undergraduates and graduate students who will become the next generations of leaders in this exciting field.
